Meet Sarge. He has been in and out of Minneapolis Animal Care and Control multiple times over the last two years 💔.

[thread]
He originally came to us on March 22, 2017 as a stray and was adopted on April 3, 2017. He was returned on Oct. 10, 2017. His adopter was a senior and could no longer take Sarge on walks, and overall Sarge was too much for him to handle.
Sarge was then re-adopted on Oct. 13, 2017, returned on Jan. 30, 2018, adopted March 1, 2018, and returned Jan. 4, 2019. 😢
Sarge was returned because the owners “no longer having time” to care for him. His adopters had too much going on with life with their children or began working long hours and was *never* due to behavior concerns.
We asked local foster-based rescue groups to take him in. Unfortunately, Sarge loves people, but he doesn’t like other dogs – and no rescue group could find a foster family without other animals. So sweet Sarge sat and sat in his kennel.
In January 2019, Sarge developed dental issues that required expensive surgery, which made it even harder for him to find a new home.
When the veterinarians and staff at @Animal_HumaneMN heard Sarge’s story, they knew they could help. They called their animal-loving colleagues at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control and offered to do Sarge’s surgery for free.
AHS frequently partners with local animal welfare organizations like Minneapolis Animal Care and Control to help animals in need. Bright and early Tuesday morning, Sarge came to the Veterinary Center at AHS in Golden Valley for his surgery, and by 4 p.m. he had a brand new smile!
Because of his new dental work by @Animal_HumaneMN, we've decided to make Sarge available to the public for adoption instead of requiring placement through a rescue group. We would love to see their repeat resident in a permanent home as soon as possible. 🙌
Sarge needs to find a home with no other animals – he is reactive towards other dogs and has high prey drive towards cats. Dog reactivity aside, he is a very sweet dog who has not had the best of luck finding a home.
