Problem: there are plenty of companies whose products have 'features' - or are considering adding features to their apps - that enable privacy violations that enable domestic and sexual violence and stalkers.

& there is nowhere for whistleblowers to go.

When the Office of Technology Assessment is finally revived, there needs to be a path to those working in the tech industry to seek help in obtaining information about the law surrounding privacy protections, help dissuading employers from pursuing these projects,
or a pathway for whistleblowers to report projects that violate user privacy regulations (which, unfortunately, we also need), and a mechanism for those projects to be shut down (ie stop collecting/analyzing any user data) until any violations are remediated.

Long thread time: So most of you know me (Brad) from my grsecurity/Linux work, which had previously been done in my free time. Only a few people (other than those that followed a particular github account) know of my non-free-time work for the past 14 years.
Since I started working in 2005, I always wanted to make sure I would never be in a situation where I would learn about something that I wouldn't be able to then fix in grsecurity, so this ruled out working for most security companies. Linux defensive work...

Short thread about the undeniably fascist undertones of Melania Trump's "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" jacket.

The phrase "I don't care" in and of itself has fascist roots from the pre-WW2 era, and was later adopted by Mussolini. Deeper explanation here: overland.org.au/2018/06/a-brie…
Now, all by itself, "I don't care" could be said just to be a popular phrase. Everyone says it. I've said it at least four times today.

But context matters and, in this case, the context is the clothing company that made the jacket: Zara. So let's look at them for a second.
