This is why, my fellow journalists, I'm so aggravated and frustrated. Do not let public officials lie with impunity. Challenge them. Fuck "civility." That's a weapon wielded against truth by corporate & political interests, same as the bothsiderism that is pushed as objectivity.
You will get pushback if you say things corrupt shit-mouths don't like. They'll organize squads of people to clutch their pearls and tell you that you've lost all credibility. They'll try to go over your head to your editor and get you fired. Don't fall for it, editors.
This has gone on too long. We have assigned blatant lies the same value as truth in service of some corporate idea of "objectivity" and allowed astroturfed public opinion to distort the actual, unvarnished truth; another tactic is to use reporters' mistakes - which are inevitable
because reporters and editors, like everyone else, are human - as "proof" of hopeless bias or lack of objectivity. Then they marshal bots and trolls to send email after email until the hapless reporter at the bottom of that manufactured dogpile is either fired or feels so
radioactive that they have no choice but to quit. Then those same bad-faith actors gloat forever.

in order to smear a CNN reporter and never apologized or walked back those entirely bullshit claims even when they were caught - quit letting them get away with it. Fuck "neutrality." Fuck "objectivity." There's no such thing when you're dealing with liars acting in bad faith.
And now that you know this, act accordingly.
