Just logging on briefly to say that last night I caught a frog outside my house. I patted his head gently and told him he was a good froggie and then I let him go, and it was the high point of my 2019 so far.
Found another (?) one on the other side of the yard - we either got one frog who really likes our house, or we’re about to have a plague
Some folks dropping into my mentions to claim this is a “toad,” it’s either a pickerel frog or a northern leopard frog, there are many things I will abide on this hell website but casting aspersions on my frog identification skills is not one of them

Check out how they measured bullshitting: they asked students to rate their knowledge of 16 mathematical topics, 3 of which were fake. Those who said they were knowledgeable about the fake ones were deemed to be bullshitters. washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…
Given that people from wealthy backgrounds bullshit more, the findings suggest that bullshitting may actually be beneficial to career success. And given mens' propensity toward bullshit, it may be contributing to the gender wage gap as well. washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…

Didn't make it into the story, but this is the summary chart showing the discontinuity in health outcomes (lower = worse) that happens when you cross from the late sunset to the early sunset side of a time zone border washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…
These effects happen because people on the late sunset sides of time zones stay up later, due to more PM daylight. But they can't make up for it in the AM because work times don't change with the sun. So they miss out on ~2 weeks' worth of sleep each year washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…

Fun medical billing story: I'm on a couple long-term meds -- anti-depressant and a blood pressure med --that I get 90 day scripts for. Starting this year, my local pharmacy was for some reason only able to fill 30 days at a time, which was weird (1/x)
Then, my insurance told them two things: A) that they would not cover any more 30 day prescriptions and B) that they would also not cover 90 day scripts at that pharmacy. They then simultaneously sent me a bizarre letter saying "it's time to make a choice"
Long story short, my insurer abruptly changed its rules so that 90 day scripts would only be filled at a CVS or via mail order. The closest CVS to me is an hour away.

Last night when CPD rushed us for the last time. They literally had us surrounded in the parking lot. The BLACK women who were on the front was attacked first. These aren't organizers or activists. These were BLACK grandmothers, & aunts
That I see everyday on the 15 or J14 with shopping carts. These were actual community members. As we ran i saw police aiming for certain folks. I've spent alot of time in South Shore. Snoop is a man I've seen. People may talk shit about 71st but its home to see many
Police shutdown the 24hr Walgreens. But everything else was open. This same area actually the same street several BLACK men/boys have lost their lives to CPD in since 2013. South Shore is tired.

Every year the same pair of finches returns to the bush outside my office window, and every year they have the same debate about whether or not to build their nest in exactly the same place. It is like an Avian Love It or List It.
Like clockwork, they show up at 1:30 each afternoon, each with a single twig each. I presume that either a) they are a sloppy couple who sleeps in until noon each day or 2) they have spent all morning sourcing these twigs.
For thirty minutes, they hop around the top of the bush with the twigs, fretting about location.

Before I lose the idea. R76 and wax museum challenge.
I'm thinking Jack as a journalist, challenged to do the "one night in a wax museum" thing. (Since he lost a bet in his journalist company).

His boss wants a segment of his experience or something so Jack takes a vid camera, sleeping bag, notebooks and some necessities
His bet requires him to set up in the 'murderers' section for maximum fear factor and what not. Jack admits he's a little scared cause everything looks so real.

One of the statues is a guy called Gabriel Reyes. The story was that he murdered people around the city.

Good morning, all.

For those who are learning about what are now several dozen allegations against Sherman Alexie--all of which are 100% credible--go to my TL &/or search for his name on Twitter. Others are sharing their stories, too.

Here's what I've learned since last night:
In multiple instances, he explicitly threatened to end women's careers if they told anyone he had sexually harassed them.

Also, it seems that Native writers were targeted w/ the most force.
He's powerful in the literary world and powerful in the Native world.

The women who, by chance, reside at the intersection of both seemed to be prey for him.

The women are in no way to blame. NOT AT ALL.
