Leopoldo López talks to a group of frenzied journalists at the gates of the Spanish ambassador's residency, where he's been staying with his family since the night of Tuesday, April 30th. His message: he expects the usurpation will end in "weeks"
While the regime's forces were seen during the day close to the Spanish consulate, López stands on the threshold of the diplomatic property where he took refuge—without requisting asylum, so far—to say that the international community told him Venezuela won't be abandoned
López said that he had talked to several generals and people from the regime before launching the operation on Tuesday, where Juan Guaidó and López tried to take La Carlota airbase with a squad of defecting National Guards
López—Venezuela's most famous political prisoner and mentor of caretaker President Guaidó—insisted that the struggle to topple Maduro is on and that he will reveal the names of Maduro's allies who were involved in Tuesday's uprising at the right time.
A few hours earlier, a court had ordered to capture López, given that he escaped house arrest, and instructed to send him back to Ramo Verde military prison.
Requesting* sorry, everyone.
Leopoldo López's message isn't only an opportunity to talk in public in case he's jailed again: he's trying to counteract the idea that the events of April 30th were a leap into the void without real military support or an action to keep the opposition's hopes up.
López is trying to spread the message that the opposition is united and the regime is about to break. He suggested a transitional government is in the works and that "all cooperation" from abroad is considered. "You aren't alone," he said to "our brothers in the Armed Forces".
