/ Before I say what I'm about to say, I'd like to remind everyone, @benshapiro is supposed to be "the smart one." The one who "owns" all the libs and argues circles around us. Mmm, k...so let us examine his recent-self own on Twitter. It suggests his brilliance is a sick joke...
/ So check out this tweet, in reply to someone pointing out the hypocrisy of being pro life but opposed to health care as a right...Analysis to follow...
/ What Ben is doing is classic differentiating between "positive" and "negative" rights: the right TO a particular thing/good, etc., versus the right not to have something done TO you by another (in this case, taxation to provide health care to others)...
/ The problem here is not simply that health care is requisite for life (so to say there's a right to life while denying a right to health care is to make the right to life contingent on one's material condition, therefore not a right at all, but a privilege). There is more...
/ The biggest problem for Ben's argument here is that his position on abortion DOES place a demand on some to provide for others, against their will: namely, it demands that women MUST give of their uteruses and bodies for the sake of a fetus...
/ It is not merely a "negative rights" position, which holds that the fetus has a right not to be aborted bc of its "right to life." It is a positive rights argument too, which holds that the fetus has a claim on the uterus of another to sustain that life...
/ But if taxation is coercion, and if it's wrong to impose taxes on person A to pay for health care for person B, then how is it NOT coercion to force 9 months of pregnancy and to demand that person A carry person B for the entire time of gestation?...
/ There is no answer 2 this question other than one that begins & ends with, "well, but the woman had sex, so..." in which case it's just about blaming her for having sex (not the men who caused the pregnancy) & controlling women's bodies....
/ The fact that @benshapiro is the best the right has would be embarrassing in a society where philosophical & analytical ability were valued. Sadly, this is 21st century America where viral videos & marketing carry more weight than logic. Ben is a moron and misogynist. Period.
