We wonder why Facebook has more fake users than real users. We wonder why Twitter is infested with bots. We wonder why local newspapers are becoming an endangered species. Adtech fuels adfraud by funding multibillion dollar dark market in R&D for botcraft and anti-fraud evasion.
Fraudsters can buy browser fingerprints hacked from users to evade fraud detection. No wonder the adtech industry can’t agree on how much fraud is out there. Cheating is cheap when our data leaks by default.

Seems like Matt Oczkowski, formerly of Cambridge Analytica, now Data Propria, struggles to find domestic data science talent and relies on foreign workers which is a great way to run afoul of election law. He managed 2 data scientists in 2016 from SCL UK in TX on tourist visas.
Here’s the 2016 Project Alamo Cambridge Analytica team embedded in the campaign. What follows is page from Cambridge Analytica’s own report that admits they may have been in USA on “incorrect visas” for campaign work and we assume Doni and Nocera (pictured) aren’t US citizens.
Oz promised to be more ethical this time. Not sure if that includes a deep and abiding respect for FECA and the simple principal that only citizens and permanent residents should work on election campaigns. wired.com/story/data-pro…

Alphabet could spin-off to avoid break-up. YouTube should be its own company. DoubleClick could be reborn independently. Android should be its own company. Just like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus should also be spun-off. This is not that hard.
Big Tech Synergy is good for advertisers because evermore invasive, expansive surveillance makes nifty charts that make ad spend seem less wasteful. There’s not much evidence it’s good for consumers though beyond “conveniences” we didn’t need before.
Big Tech Synergy for invasive behavioral ads is a boon to Direct-to-Consumer brands like Dollar Shave Club but it’s a disaster for publishers whose civic duty is to protect democracy. Study suggests 4% is the paltry bounty for selling out reader’s privacy. techcrunch.com/2019/05/31/tar…

The @IABEurope has written up an article to try to distance their consent framework from the recent @CNIL decision finding issues with Vectaury's application of consent. I didn't expect much, but I was disappointed anyway. Read it at iabeurope.eu/policy/the-cni…, some notes follow. 👇
But first: you MUST consent.
Much of the IAB's argument is that Vectaury did not follow the framework's policies. This is disputable, but even if true it's an issue in itself: their framework has no real verification and no enforcement. It's yet another trust-everyone festival.

It's striking to hear her talk abt the min wage in real terms: how it takes 2 hours at the current min wage to afford a pack of diapers for her son. By contrast, Carper said his parents were children of the great depression w/ no indication he's in touch w contemporary hardship.
Carper speaks often of the ACA - he's work to support & maintain it. But @KerriHarrisDE observes that the vast majority of folks in DE have health insurance, but they can't afford to use it. She emphasizes health care as a "human right," and supports Medicare for All.
