there are lots of competing and overlapping explanations for the perceived problem of "why are dudes so shitty" (however you interpret that)

right now I find myself thinking– I think school, maybe civilization itself, disincentivizes the development of confident, independent men
when I say "confident" I don't mean bluster, bravado, arrogance, etc – all of which are often symptoms of insecurity

I mean the quiet sort of confidence that comes from knowing your worth, taking ownership and responsibility for yourself, your actions and their consequences, etc
why school? it's surely not the whole picture, obviously, but I feel like it's a big part of the picture, and seldom talked about in this context

one of the biggest mysteries of my life is why I never listened to anybody who raved about how ~uhmayzing~ travel is

i've tried lots of things that people have suggested, but travel is the thing I was slowest/latest to

maybe bc travelling with my parents as a child was Not Fun
I've travelled a few times over the years + I always *DID* think "this is refreshing, I should do this more"

but I rarely did

I think the game-changer for me now is having people to meet

random exploring = pretty cool

having twitter friends show you around their city = 😍
found an old blogpost draft I wrote in 2012

"It feels fantastic to interact with strangers, to help them and to receive help in return. Life-affirming."

I am so slow to learn my lessons 😅

(and yes I married the girlfriend)

The easiest path is to solve a problem you have. This way, you don’t have to second guess if you are solving a real problem, and you don’t have to do user research. We started Twist to solve problems we had with distractions of Slack, I built Todoist to manage my work and life.
The days of the MVP versions are over. The expectations are incredibly high, and people will not even entertain your solution if you don’t cover all the core things such as engineering, design, support, and marketing.

This is just one of the marine diesel generators that live in the lowest basement. The site has its own dual redundant HV feed, and operate their own HV/LV transformer kit. They take ~600 litres of oil, and are regularly tested.
To power those, they need a load of fuel. There’s a tank like this for each generator, and they hold enough red diesel for 8 hours. An additional huge set of tanks sit behind which receive fuel deliveries from a tanker connection outside the building.

There is a case to be made for a special UK-EU security partnership. The uniqueness of Northern Ireland is also clear. On trade, however, I don’t understand some of the arguments coming out of the UK. 1/2
EU has made clear an FTA is on offer. But Britain has realised that an FTA would damage the UK economy. That damage is called Brexit as defined by May’s red lines. Why should the EU27 break their rules and principles for a decision the UK itself has taken? 2/2
Put yourself in the shoes of the EU27. Britain: ‘we’re going to do this thing, and make you spend years working on it. We know it will hurt our economy, but please help us make it hurt less’. It’s an odd argument once seen from the other side of the negotiating table.
