The one that kills me is when they go MAGIC MUST TAKE ITS TOLL YOU MUST PAY A PRICE and ok I get it but a) don't tell me what my magic must do and b) shit's more complicated than that tbh and this tends to oversimplify that
This is why y'all keep catching me with resting over it face on panels lol jk it's cuz that's my face
Sometimes you pay "the price" for "magic" in advance and in full and then you're good to go and all that is to say the rules of shit don't always have to be designed to cause maximum annoyance for the protagonist. I know conflict is important etc etc but there are other ways ayo

I don’t know who needs to hear this right now but:
-publishers don’t expect writers to take the first amount they offer on a book
-editors don’t expect an author to take all their edits just like that with no pushback at all.
Fight for what you believe in, including your worth.
(Not good ones anyway)
Caveat to that first one: it doesn’t make lowballing okay. The initial offer does set some sense of parameters and if it’s way lower than it should be and you are able to go wide, go wide.*
*in my humble opinion, consult an actual agent, circumstances assorted legalize etc etc

This is such a wild misunderstanding of how publishing works. Twitter weighing in is the closest we’ve ever been to readers having an actual say. It is an imperfect method and not without problems, but nowhere near as imperfect as the publishing industry unchecked...
Dreary monoculture is a *chefs kiss* perfect way to describe how publishing and the resultant bookshelf has looked for most of our lives and throughout its long history. Well done.
People who write about critique being censorship must believe books just appear magically on the shelves and no books are written that don’t get published. That’s the only explanation for such a severe lack of analysis about how the world works. I got nothing.

Hindi from LKG to 8th standard. I was terrible at it. I had no one to help me with it at home either. My Hindi teacher's nickname for me at school was slow coach. I neither understood the language or showed the slightest interest to learn it. When I was in the 5th std,
someone gave my mom the brilliant idea of enrolling me for the Hindi prachar sabha exams to improve my understanding of the language. So I started going for those classes. I cleared 6 levels by simply mugging everything without understanding even a tiny bit of the language.

Hang on, I'm about to attempt one of the most challenging feats known to man: explaining *why* something that is obviously true to all who experience it, is in fact true. Namely:

"Why is it desirable for software engineers to practice ownership over their code?"
First let's define software ownership. I've defined it in the past as,

* everyone with commit privs should also
* have the ability to deploy and roll back their code, and
* debug their code live in production.

Still more or less tracks, but now I feel these are less rules,

Today, @SeemaCMS referred to ACA Medicaid expansion as a "hollow victory of numbers covered." Let's talk about that hollow victory (thread).
First, there are the 20 million who gained coverage thanks to ACA & Medicaid expansion. I'll never apologize for constantly touting that.
States that chose to expand Medicaid had much larger gains in coverage (fingers crossed we'll soon get to update this chart to add Maine)
