I'm CONSTANTLY amazed at how many marketing professionals have an inability to write human-readable copy.

I mean, isn't that a key skill?
I've had to write "not actually a word" four times on this piece so far.
Also OH MY GOD THAT'S NOT HOW COMMAS WORK.

Use a full stop sometimes.

It's okay. People won't go anywhere.

They just want to stop and breath.

Writing "interdisciplinary expertise" under 'what we do' doesn't answer the question.

Sorry, but from now on ANY TIME anyone in the HE sector says "interdisciplinary expertise" in answer to a question, they have to do a shot.

It is a new law. I have decreed it.

A serious thing that has been bugging me since last night's Leadership debate:

I don't think Jeremy Hunt understands how time and memory actually work in the real world.
On AT LEAST two occasions, Jeremy Hunt brought up that he used to be Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Not was ASKED about his time as SoS Health. But ACTIVELY brought it up. It was bizarre. I commented on it at the time:
Now let's not beat about the bush here. Jeremy Hunt was, hands down, one of the WORST SoS Healths that the country has suffered since the birth of the Welfare State.

Wanna know how bad? His Wikipedia index of shame HAS FIVE SUBSECTIONS ON THE NHS

I should probably point out that I have legit thought about how a digital CCG of the Great Game would work before.

So following the comments on the quoted tweet, this was my thinking...
Three playable nations at launch: Britain, Germany and Revolutionary Russia.

'Game board' is the Caspian Sea c. 1918/19

Ways to win:

- Control most POLITICAL CENTRES at game end
- Opponent runs out of cards
- Control ALL political centres for two rounds
To control a political centre you must have the most POWER within it.

To take one you simply need more power there than the current owner.

Centre owner political power ticks down by 1 every round, unless they take actions to boost it.

Bernie's polling is decent, but that he does the 2nd-best against Trump (after Biden) is partly an artifact of name recognition. For instance, Buttigieg polls worse than Bernie vs. Trump. But Buttigieg actually has better favorables than Bernie among voters who know who he is.
It's certainly a messy relationship. Some liberals, including Bernie, have decent (though not great) polling. Some moderates don't. But favorability ratings, which allow voters to say they don't recognize a candidate, are a better way to assess this stuff than head-to-head polls.

You have to adjust for name recognition, though. Biden, at just south of 30 percent, is still something like a 2:1 underdog. And Bernie's position at 20 percent, as I wrote yesterday, is tenable but not great.
Per the chart above, Buttigieg's position is roughly as good as Bernie's on a "polls only" basis, or maybe a bit better. Empirically, you'd slightly prefer to be polling at ~10% with low name recognition than ~20% with high name recognition.

A few highbrow beers (although there's nothing *truly* highbrow on here) creep over into wineland, but that's sort of what you'd expect.

1. Why I Hate New York Times Ethos

NY Times is as influential in shaping news cycles in America as it is rotten to the core in its ethos. Make no mistake. ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, e al, all take their cues from NY Times, and it has been that way almost since their inception.
2. Reporters are only human. They make mistakes. That is no problem at all. Mistakes can be corrected and reported on when found. But narratives that are spun at NY Times headquarters are always purposefully crafted to dupe Americans, and there is no forgiving that.
3. It's not that NY Times has somehow been corrupted only lately. I am constantly amazed to find new evidence that it has been rotten for a century. Here's the latest installment.

Features aren’t in planning for months. There’s no internal handbook describing exactly how your role works. Every “first” has to be invented.

You kind of have to figure it out on your own.
