Clearly the Bay Area startup scene is where you go when you're a pure product of privilege yet you still want to fancy yourself as self-made and anti-establishment
Let's clarify this...

On one hand, the supermajority of SF/SV founders were born rich, went to an Ivy (nearly a requirement to get funded), are part of the network.

On the other hand, SF/SV rhetoric is all about rag-to-riches stories, lionizing founders as self-made heroes
On one hand, the tech scene discourse is purely group-think, the supermajority of founders unconditionally embrace mainstream culture & ideology, and self-identify with stereotypes

On the other hand, SF/SV rhetoric is all about thought leadership, daring to be think differently
On one hand, the supermajority of founders are representatives of existing power structures and embrace the system and the goodies it provides them

On the other hand, SF/SV rhetoric is all about disruption, being rebels, changing the world

It's a jarring contrast.
