If you think your elected won't care about what happened in San Ysidro today, remind them they work for you, and it's their job to represent what *you* care about.

Every time I tweet out a script, I'll receive mentions - typically from dudes - who complain their electeds don't care, so there's no point in calling.

It's your job to make them care. Make it an issue for them, to the point they can't do anything else.
In my last position, I handled constituent affairs and communications, and nothing put me on high alert like when people called or emailed the office repeatedly about an issue.
