1. The Biden comments about Eastland & Talmadge weren't really a gaffe, but a window into a worldview. Friendship between politicians is pretty much the core of Biden's worldview. He's Pal Joey: Buddy Biden.
3. Biden's 2003 eulogy for Strom Thurmond deserves to be read carefully: it's a very clear articulation of Biden's view that politics is all about leaders of different ideologies coming together in friendship to solve problems. That's what Biden believes.
4. Biden's philosophy -- which shouldn't be dismissed lightly -- is that America is a divided country (by race, class, region etc) & politicians represent these division but when they form friendship they can find areas of commonality & solve problems.
