1) We have witnessed over the past several years how important narratives and stories are essential and central to controlling the masses. Herding us like sheep as if we’re completely clueless.
Newsflash, we’re not.
I could spell that out for you, but thats not what Im here to do.
Movies that use their pedestal to promote awareness of how easily positions of power can be corrupted and how false realities can be constructed.
The Matrix (1999)
A man is chosen to save humanity from technology’s harvesting of our energy
Awoken to learn his reality is essentially holograms, where he can learn entire languages or fighting styles like downloading some files
They Live (1988)
A blue collar construction worker finds random glasses that unveil which humans are not, how they exert their power over those who are, and the power of advertising.
Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014)
Cap’s childhood friend has his mind wiped and is trained by remnants of Nazi Germany’s high tech secret society known as ‘Hydra’, which is later revealed to have corrupted and taken over the entirety of the world stage.
Industry underdogs Anthony and Joe Russo were merely known for their scrappy and hilarious TV show Arrested Development when Winter Soldier was made and earned them the jobs of directing not only Infinity War but also the recent Endgame.
Hereditary (2018)
This one hits an unfocused viewer like a wall in the end and is new enough for me to simply ask all interested parties to direct themselves to the nearest screen and rent it. Buy it even.
Get Out (2017)
A young man goes to visit his girlfriends family only to learn they want him for something much more sinister, revealing a whole black market of evil.
Us (2019)
This is another one too recent and well made to spoil for those who haven’t yet enjoyed it. Just know at least that it humorously mentions Fluoride being in our tap water as a method of control.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
A man goes from an elitist party to realizing he might have a way in to *the* party for true elites. Rife with underaged prostitution, sex magick, and satanic rituals with masked and cloaked people of power.
Renowned director Stanley Kubrick pushed for his ability to create this movie for years. He reportedly showed what was close to his final cut to executives, who demanded he edit out the ending and other scenes.
The Shape of Water (2017)
A woman working at a top security military compound slowly falls in love with a cryptid sea creature they had just recently captured and held in secret
The Truman Show (1998)
A man finds out little by little that his entire reality is designed and built to use his existence as entertainment for millions
The Adjustment Bureau (2011)
A politician running for Senate suddenly meets a woman he’s never supposed to see again and is thrown into a battle with an intelligence agency that doesn’t publicly exist and uses advanced tech to operate
While we are witnessing the slow dismantling of artifical narratives, lets enjoy some actually well crafted ones and learn their moves.
