Here's the thing. Many people seem to be unaware that all but a few states *still* have what you would call "forced busing."

This takes the form of court-imposed school districting for the purpose of desegregation. There are more than 100 of these still in effect across the U.S.
Mini-history lesson. Back after Brown v. Board, many localities tried to get out of desegregating by creatively redrawing their school districts.

After a great deal of angsting, the courts ultimately decided that they could impose desegregation by imposing school districts.
These desegregation orders were basically open-ended until the court that issued it decided that the school had sufficiently and persistently desegregated.

In the past 15 years, courts have been making those certifications.
But not always, and not everywhere. As I said, more than 100 desegregation orders remain in effect across almost every state.
