Hello, Twitter. Here's the deal. I'm sick -- getting over it, but sick -- and need to not be in time to travel, so I'm going to spend the next day and maybe two mostly in recovery mode: little alcohol or caffeine, lots of fluids, little movement, lots of rest.

I've realized belatedly that a lot of my panicky tweeting Sunday night was probably influenced by a fever I didn't realize I had until after it broke.

I had planned to spend the first half of this week Getting Down To Business on here in order to make money and shore up finances before we fly home to celebrate my mother's life, but no sense in that if I work myself into a relapse doing so.

I've often observed over the years that the mixed blessing of an irregular pay scheme -- freelance, crowdfunding, busking -- is that you get all the time off you need for sickness, bereavement, etc. You might starve or be evicted or get stuff shut off, but you won't get fired!

So I very deeply appreciate the kind and patient support I've received through my grieving process this past month, where I've been able to work some of the time and then break down others. Grief doesn't happen on a schedule.

I've been learning from the example of my father, who as part of his own process, thinks about the future and tries to make plans that take into account its new shape.

I've been thinking about what my own future looks like, from here on out.

Anyway. I'm about to put something on to watch, lie back, and let my immune system do its thing. We've still got expenses this week, so if you'd like to support my past work or make a down payment to its future form, please feel free.

So, I've found out that most of my siblings and in-laws also caught some kind of crud in our Florida gathering, with one confirmed case of strep throat. I'm feeling okay but still a little weak/tired (my immune system takes a lot out of me)... think I made the right call resting.

Going to go crash again, as I don't really have the option to take it easy tomorrow (travel day).
