Oof. Reading between the lines here.... this is a couple trying to live a rockstar life on a start-up executive salary. The idea that their phone bill is $40/month suggests to me they don't actually handle their own bills so any number of these line items might be guesses.
Every time I read a story about a six figure couple "struggling to make ends meet", it's like... tell me again how poor people have poor money management skills?
Her career is supposedly model, which goes a long way towards explaining a four figure monthly line item for clothes... I wonder if she's trying to jumpstart a career through money and conspicuous consumption, a la a Kansas Kardashian?
The fact that we don't immediately know who this is about tells us how fruitful that approach is.
If there's *any* accuracy to the property taxes and mortgage items, they could immediately be in the black without adjusting their savings/investments just by downsizing to a house any one of us would find decadent.
The monthly food bill says to me that the line item "party supplies" does not actually encompass the whole amount they are spending on parties a month.
This is one reason I took exception to the learned correspondent of @KillerMartinis insisting that $200k-400k is "upper middle class" - these people are in the red because they throw Gatsby parties and play at being jet setters. Hobbies that take money.
@KillerMartinis If you're "broke" because you spend $2,000 a month on clothes and $3,000 a month on gourmet catering, you're rich.
