That’s the earliest date the Cubs can option Caratini to Iowa and *not* have 2019 count as his final option season. Preserving his one option remaining would be a nice way to protect against unexpected struggles in future years. (2/5)
Happ entered season with 1 yr and 142 days of service time. His free agency set to be after 2023 season. If Happ is *not* recalled prior to 8/30, he won’t get to 172 service days; this won’t count for Year 2. Free agency not until post-2024. 3/5
Ryan was optioned to the minors on March 26. He was recalled on April 6. 11 days on optional assignment. That means if Ryan spends only 8 more days in the minors, 2019 won’t count as his final option season. Increasing his value in 2020. 4/5.
According to AZ Phil @thecubreporter, if Zo isn’t reinstated before 8/1, he’ll need commissioner approval to play again in 2019. By 7/31 he needs added back to 40-man and agree to be optioned to inactive list in minors until ready to play. 5/5.
Webster then hits 30 days on rehab, at which time he’ll need to be reinstated from the 60-day IL. He’s out of options. I doubt there’s a bullpen spot for him. Can Cubs recoup some value rather than losing on waivers? IFA $? (6/5).
