This entire situation has been puzzling to me-trying to figure out WHY @POTUS and Barr would allow this charade. I came up with a hypothetical.
1. RBG is seriously incapacitated and cannot do her judicial duties.
2. Knowing that if this information became public the Dems

3. would go "over the cliff" insane so the decision was made to keep her "under wraps" (pun intended) until the swamp was drained enough that the blow back would not be so intense.

6. In order to keep the pretense alive the Justices go along with the game BUT this is where my theory takes a very positive turn.

10. Then @SCOTUS would have to re-do some cases although the decisions that were 8 to 1 or even 7 to 2 could stand.
Who knows? It could happen.
