Grand Rapids is the home of Betsy DeVos, and our schools are all “school of choice” charter school madness. It is a very segregated town. grbj.com/articles/90757…
But even if you put the structural racism aside ... I spent most of my childhood In what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, and when I returned to West Michigan at 12, believe me the casual personal-level racism was *startling.*

Still sitting here with the fact that Mueller testified Trump can be prosecuted for crimes after leaving office, lied to his investigation, welcomed foreign interference, and the dominant media response was "but he didn't say it like Jack Nicholson would have, 2 thumbs down."
Still sitting here with the fact that Democratic leadership continues to quell the calls for impeachment proceedings within their ranks, messaging instead that they'd like to build a stronger case, which carries the implicit argument that what we now know isn't strong enough.
I've been sitting here for a while with 62 million people so receptive to (or at best indifferent to) a bald white supremacist message that they'd vote to give nukes to the Apprentice dummy.

This is not for a lack of “investment,” as politicians like to call their profligate spending of taxpayer money. When the federal Department of Education was formed in 1979, it had a budget of $2.9 billion. In the Barack Obama years, that skyrocketed to nearly $80 billion.

Today’s youth, and many adults, are stunningly ignorant regarding even very basic concepts and facts related to math, science, and history. They have spent years marinating in government indoctrination, being taught what to think, rather than how to think.
