DOJ announced that the federal government is going to resume capital punishment, and AG Bill Bar has directed the Bureau of Prisons to schedule executions for five death-row inmates
The last federal execution was in 2003, per the Bureau of Prisons. There have been 37 federal executions from 1927 to 2003

Here's the latest status report in the family separations class action: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6273… Per the ACLU, the feds have ID'd an additional 966 separated kids who were released from ORR custody *before* the judge ordered reunifications for kids still *in* custody in June 2018
The govt has been turning over to the ACLU lists of separated kids who fall under the expanded class definition on a rolling basis -- the latest number, 966, is up from the 791 kids ID'd as of mid-July. DOJ says in today's report there are two more batches of info to go
The # of kids who fall under the new, expanded class is in addition to the # of separated kids ID'd as part of the original class, which is roughly 2,800. And that's all different from the ~1,000 kids separated since the judge's June 2018 order buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…

The White House just announced a new nominee for the 2nd Circuit: Steven Menashi, who currently works in the White House as a special assistant and senior associate counsel to Trump
The White House also announced five nominees for district courts in OK, PA, NC, MO, and FL
A few things of note about the new nominees: Richard Myers II, a law prof, is nominated for the open seat in the Eastern District of NC. It's the oldest vacancy nationwide, open since Dec. 2005. It's the seat Thomas Farr was unsuccessfully nominated for under W. Bush and Trump

Just in: House Judiciary Comm. lost its bid to have its subpoena lawsuit against Don McGahn assigned to the same judge handling Dems' petition to unseal Mueller grand jury info — judge found the connection between the cases "too superficial and attenuated" assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6270…
Chief Judge Beryl Howell: "The potential for manipulation of the ordinary rule of random assignment would be particularly acute if the House Judiciary Committee could relate any matter arising from its ongoing investigation to a single judge on this Court..."
This means that the Don McGahn subpoena case will go back to the wheel for random assignment to another judge

MORE: In the press release, Barr directs the Federal Bureau of Prisons to:

-adopt an addendum to the Federal Execution Protocol
-schedule the executions of 5 death-row inmates
MORE: Barr called the 5 death-row inmates "the worst criminals".

Each of them was convicted of multiple offenses — including murder — and sentenced to death in their respective jurisdictions

AG Barr has directed the Acting Director of the BOP to schedule the executions of five death-row inmates.
These are the five individuals now set for execution. First one scheduled for December 9.
Barr said the first executions involve "five death-row inmates convicted of murdering, and in some cases torturing and raping, the most vulnerable in our society—children and the elderly.”
