Today is the 29th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a statute that is sometimes called the last great civil rights act of the 20th century. medium.com/@SenBobCasey/j…
Last year, the Centers for Disease Control estimated there are over 61 million people with disabilities in the United States.
As with the other great laws, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the ADA was written to rectify discrimination and prejudice against a specific group, in the case of the ADA, those 61 million Americans with disabilities.
One of those Americans is Jean Searle, a Pennsylvanian who lives in Harrisburg. medium.com/@SenBobCasey/j…
