This nominee, Justin Walker, earned a rare and abysmal "not qualified" rating from the American Bar Association 😂
McConnell is saying here that the best person he's ever recommended to *any* president to be a lifetime federal judge is a 37-year-old guy rated not qualified for the job because of the "very substantial gap" in his experience.

Way to aim high! 🇺🇸
While Trump is distracting everyone with racist tweets, people like this are quietly sailing through the Senate with the support of every Republican.

This guy, a former Kavanaugh clerk, is gonna be around way after Trump is gone, making decisions that affect generations of ppl.

NBD, just the Oregon Republican Party mocking Democrats for being afraid of a heavily armed militia gathered outside the state Capitol in support of Republicans walking out + going into hiding to avoid voting on a climate change bill.

Just take a minute to let that all sink in.
Omg the Oregon GOP is using a fake image -- these are actually *timber industry workers* protesting logging restrictions at the Capitol, not militia protesting a climate bill.

Yesterday the Senate confirmed Kenneth Lee, 43, to a lifetime seat on a U.S. circuit court. He has a record of offensive writings and both of his home-state senators opposed him being nominated at all. But Republicans confirmed him anyway. (2/x) huffpost.com/entry/senate-t…

Senate now voting to confirm Michael Park to be a lifetime judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

His record includes defending Trump's decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census + representing Kansas' (failed) effort to defund Planned Parenthood.
Like the vast majority of Trump's court picks, Park is young (43), ideological and a Federalist Society member.

He's also getting confirmed over the objections of both of his home-state senators. 4th time that's ever happened. Yesterday was the 3rd time. huffpost.com/entry/mitch-mc…

Here's some background on Pennsylvania's death penalty system. Since 1978, PA has imposed 441 death sentences and 270 of those sentences have been overturned on appeal. That's an error rate of over 60%!
Six innocent people have been exonerated and freed from death row after wrongful convictions in Pennsylvania. 37 people have died of natural causes or suicide on death row. Only three people have been executed and all of them voluntarily dropped their appeals.
In 2018, a Joint State Government Commission found that Pennsylvania's death penalty system is unreliable, arbitrary, and unjustified. The Commission identified several specific problems but the legislature has not attempted to make any changes.

So It looks like the whole damn thing is rotten to its core with lots of powerful, privileged people protecting each other from scrutiny or punishment. Of course we all know this has been going on, but it's rare that it's exposed quite this openly.
What's interesting is how mundane all this is to the people inside the privileged spaces. This is just how things work for them, powerful men who get to prey upon women to varying degrees, with women who are granted admittance to that club willing to be some of the enforcers.
This is the meritocracy at work. As someone who has moved in meritocracy-adjacent spaces, but never joined, I've always known the meritocracy was total bullshit based on the people I knew who were inside it, but maybe, just maybe, the lid is being peeled back a bit.

Here's the thing, with all the "Call Collins and Murkowski!" and "Call the American Bar Association and have Kavanaugh disbarred!" and all.

I'm not saying don't do it.

All I'm saying is, do people really think there's a chance he won't be confirmed, for any reason?
Like... in the same way I said "They're going to win" when Pence was announced as running mate; in the same way I said "there'll be election tampering but it won't matter;" in the same way I said "there won't be any checks or balances on this regime," I'm saying this.
All the polite, trust-the-system and believe-in-the-institution idealism anybody can drum up isn't going to do anything to mitigate this situation. At what point does discussion of that fact begin?
