Senate now voting to confirm Michael Park to be a lifetime judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

His record includes defending Trump's decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census + representing Kansas' (failed) effort to defund Planned Parenthood.
Like the vast majority of Trump's court picks, Park is young (43), ideological and a Federalist Society member.

He's also getting confirmed over the objections of both of his home-state senators. 4th time that's ever happened. Yesterday was the 3rd time. huffpost.com/entry/mitch-mc…

And... Mitch McConnell just teed up confirmation votes for Kenneth Lee and Wendy Vitter to be lifetime judges. Both are controversial.

Mitch McConnell just accused Dems of delaying votes on Trump nominees at a level "literally without precedent in American history."

He denied Obama a Supreme Court seat -- unprecedented -- and blocked so many of his judicial nominees he fueled a vacancy crisis on our courts. 🇺🇸
This is third day this week McConnell is on the Senate floor accusing Dems of unprecedented delays of Trump nominees after Republicans abused Senate rules to no end, for years, to deny Obama the ability to fill court seats he was supposed to fill.
Just a sampling of how McConnell et al obstructed Obama's nominees:

*Denied him a SCOTUS seat

*Refused to fill a circuit court seat for 6+ years (!) then let Trump fill it

*Opposed their *own* judicial nominees

*Delayed votes on lotsa Obama nominees, then voted for em anyway

McConnell has set up a 2:15 vote today to change the Senate rules to make it easier to confirm Trump's judges, after years of denying Obama the ability to fill so many of these court seats.

The decennial census hasn't asked about citizenship status since 1950. The Trump admin claimed they needed the question to enforce the VRA, but three lower courts found that was a deceptive pretext. Plus, we already have citizenship estimates from the voluntary census ACS survey
Millions of people would likely be undercounted if the citizenship question is on the census. That alone would deprive urban areas & communities of color of their rightful representation & federal funding, shifting it to rural whites. But it gets far worse from there

ACLU’s @dale_e_ho just played this Yahoo interview in court and is grilling John Abowd about Ross’s statement that the citizenship question was “in the air” early in the Trump admin.

“Not in the air I was breathing,” Abowd quipped.
It’s unclear whether Wilbur Ross’s decision to sit for an interview with Yahoo will affect his ongoing Supreme Court fight to avoid deposition.

DOJ’s brief is due tomorrow.
It’s pretty brazen that - after fighting for months against a deposition about his decision to add a citizenship question to the census - Wilbur Ross granted a press interview on the subject at the precise moment the Supreme Court will decide the matter.

This NYT story reproduces a lie in its second paragraph. Birthright citizenship is the norm throughout the Americas, including in Canada and Mexico. In its 3rd paragraph, the story asserts the existence of unclarity where there is in fact broad consensus. nytimes.com/2018/10/30/us/…
The lie about jus soli has been reproduced without contradiction in AP and NYT stories so far, by my count. Relatedly, here’s a revealing moment for Axios’s production process.
