I have always called these 'chains' - "locks" myself
Especially after 9/11 and we were all trying to wake the masses
I would explain that there is a lot of mental 'locks' on the mind to make people dismiss Truth as Theory
Driven into your subconscious so you don't even realize it
Personally, I would say it's imperative to be careful of what you consume (Mind, Body, Soul)
As there is much more here at play than simple word 'spells'

my TL is full of the vid of the prof claiming, even tentatively, that the US is distinctive in its wilful denialism and ignorance about racism. It’s really, really important that UK/EU people know this is false & actually thinking this is part of how UK/EU racial denialism works
There’s various ways I can make this claim but here’s sth that’s become striking to me: I know a fair few USian critical philosophers & other scholars of race, and in the last 2 years especially, they’ve all remarked on how “behind” the U.K. is on all kinds of fronts
There are those who claim that eradicating structured systematically produced ignorances of racism *as a sociopolitical system* as well as an interactional phenomena is a necessary requirement of the eradication of white supremacy. This is likely to be true from certain angles.

By now, most Americans know this tax bill is terrible. We know it's unfair, it's a giveaway to the rich, it cuts health care & puts other services at risk.

What hasn’t sunk in yet is how it could also harm the economy, costing jobs and prosperity.

I count at least 5 ways. 1/
First and most directly, by cutting taxes on the super-rich and asking everyone else to pick up the tab, this bill will exacerbate our already sky-high levels of income inequality, as @DLeonhardt correctly points out. 2/
