If I see this I’m calling a potential active shooter in to 911 as I drive very quickly away..
If you don’t want 911 called on you as a likely mass shooter don’t go into a fucking Smashburger with a fucking massacre kit.

Terror is the only purpose.
The most likely reason by far to bring all those guns into a public space is to kill as many people as you have rounds. That has to be the assumption.

This is just such offensive horseshit it's almost difficult to know precisely *how* to be offended by it. It creates a gravity from which no shame can escape.

Anything is allowable, anything at all really, except making white people feel uncomfortable about racism for a second.
Trump has spent the last four years—as candidate and as president—sending a clear message, which violent men have often attuned to, and acted upon, most recently this week.

He knew he'd be immediately exonerated if he made the slightest lazy gesture toward decency.

He was right
He knew it because he's a con man, and even a profoundly ignorant con man possesses keen knowledge of whatever it is their mark desires

White America is his mark

And what white America wants is to be innocent

We're willing to believe anything, as long as it keeps us innocent

Remind me when the president not coddling or outright encouraging white supremacists is like t-ball where you let the kid take as many swings as he needs and then cheer like crazy when he finally manages to weakly connect on the 87th attempt.
The story “the president actually condemned murderous white supremacists, which marks a clear departure from his usual rhetoric” should be a devastating critique, not some gutless cheer.

You know, when you start to write you barely let yourself dare hope that you’ll reach a single person. To think that you’ll reach authors whose work you’ve enjoyed and respected for years is ... I’m not going to lie, it’s a whole lot.

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is an anxiety disorder that can occur in both humans and animals after experiencing or witnessing any sort of traumatic situation. Its symptoms are grouped into four categories: intrusive thoughts, avoidance, arousal, and negative mood.
Intrusive thoughts include negative memories related to trauma, flashbacks (there are multiple types— we’ll get to that later), upsetting dreams or nightmares related to issues surrounding the trauma, and feeling physically or emotionally uncomfortable when reminded of the trauma

No.. no.. no they don’t. Besides, have you even thought about the logistics of such an operation? Who’s coming? Police? Military? No, they wouldn’t give up their guns. Maybe Obama will come knock on your door and ask nicely.
“I don’t want to register my guns because the government will know what I have.”

You are paranoid. Switzerland has one of the highest gun ownership rates in Europe and they register. Registering will create greater accountability and provide better tracking to solve crimes.

It's fascinating to me, reading @DavidAFrench on gun culture in @TheAtlantic, just how much his description of it parallels "wellness" culture (see also @jameshamblin's recent piece on active shooter drills).

A brief analysis.

His (moving and illuminating) article begins with personal anecdotes of threat and trauma. This is precisely what you'll see in people who have sought ought alternative medicine--only the threat comes from a diseased and polluted world, not diseased and polluted souls.
Then, as with those who seek out alternative medicine, there's a sense that the "establishment" can't really protect you. You want to be "empowered" to protect yourself--even if the statistics don't say it's protective, it's the emotional security and personal agency that's key.
