After my tweet about the Tuwaiq bootcamp, I had some people DM me on how to get started on you own in #cybersecurity as I mentioned.

Here are some general resources.

In my opinion you have 2 tracks:
- Fast Track, (aka get rich quick scam), it pays out less in the long run,
- Right way, takes longer by building up the right skills to become an expert.

1) The "Fast Track" is what most people want today, is from zero to cybersecurity expert.
You can first follow an introductory short course like:


Or in Arabic the beginners course of Abdullah Algumaijan.

Then you can start tackling the CTF labs & boxes mentioned above, you can use writeups or videos..
..to follow somebody that explains how to do it, just google for the specific box you want to tackle and you will probably find someone who explains it, for example IPSEC on Youtube is famous for that:

2) The better way imho is grow into cybersecurity, this was also how it was before. Somebody would start in helpdesk/support get experience to grow to systems and/or networking, then get more into security. Having a good foundation will get you much further.
In this case a person study OS basics (Windows, then Linux), Networking, Scripting (Win: Powershell, Linux: Bash, General: Python, Perl, Ruby).
After you aquire those basics, you will start studying penetration testing/ethical hacking, ..
.. and if you get good basics you can start doing more labs and CTF's...
The above topics you can easily find on Youtube if you search for them, find something that fits you, some go slow, others faster, ...
A last thing I want to mention is, hacking is not what tools you use, but is more of a mindset, creative out-of-the-box thinking.

Had a recent discussion with somebody who didn't believe me that "THE INTERNET" is vulnerable...
We have become so dependent on the internet, our crucial infrastructure depend on it, our money, our communication, our privacy, our valuable data, our entertainment, our democracy,
The truth is “the internet” itself didn’t evolve with us and in its core, is still old and vulnerable. If we ask the simple question, what is “the internet”, in my opinion the internet is 2 things. Most important, underlying interconnectivity is done by the routing protocol BGP.
But this is solely connectivity and deals with protocols, IP’s and ports, this is to difficult and it is impossible to use the internet this way.
This is why the second part was implemented on top of this to make it easier to interact with “the internet”, Domain Name Servers.

I've posted a little bit about exploring Twitter threads as a new and emerging genre, and people have seemed interested in how that works (including some #HISDELA teachers and #ILAChat members), so here's a general overview!
First and foremost: the reasoning. Research shows that more and more people are getting their news from social media (journalism.org/2017/09/07/new…), which also means that more and more people are getting their news with a heavy dose of commentary.
Whether you agree with that or not...it's happening. And it's happening to our students. So our job is not to judge them or belittle them or shame them--our job is to meet them where and when they are and teach them.
