Just got to say that it's amazing how the party line across gator and adjacent circles is that if you're in a situation like this you either go to the police and have someone convicted of a crime, or nothing bad happened and you can't talk about it.

If you won't go to the police, nothing bad happened.

If you go to the police and they tell you it sounds like a personal problem, nothing bad happened.

If you go to the police and the prosecutor won't bring charges, nothing bad happened.
If you go to the police and there's an acquittal, nothing bad happened.

Everybody in the guy's circle including his family corroborates that he was like this, he did these things, had these problems...
...but it's not "fair" to tell people about it or to act on that information, if there wasn't a trial.

For what, exactly?

Yeah, some of his conduct was criminal. But not every crime creates a criminal case's worth of evidence. Not every complaint is actionable.
And while I haven't seen an exhaustive list... I haven't heard that any of his victims wanted him jailed.
The torch-wielding internet mob that has sprung into action to chase the deceased's accusers off the internet is by and large so completely ignorant of the actual facts they think he was fired from a job.

Do they care that they got it wrong? No. Because it's about their feelings
It's just a horrible situation and there's no happy ending in it for anyone.
Right?

It's not just one thing but a big part of it is having someone who is an acceptable target so they can give into all the viscerally satisfying, dark urges they want while still telling a story about how they're the good guys.

Evil has a face... and you can punch it.

Heady stuff.
