Police shot the driver of a car in NoLa on Bourbon Street. Forcing people to move further and further back. Pushing citizens away. Local worker says "they do this all the time. They trigger happy!"
Cops are yelling and pushing people away so pictures are not taken. Folks say it is a young person who was driving. EMT is on the scene.
Cops threaten that we better not talk back when we yell that they are not letting the public see what is going on. They push and yell at us.
People nearby say the car was driving the wrong way and cops shot at the driver. No one is sure if the driver is alive.
Cop hit me with a wooden road block in the back to get me to move faster. I tell him not to touch me and we can't walk through people in front of us.
People passing by: Why'd they shoot him for going the wrong way?!
Us: Cause they're cops.
Literally every Black worker out here says police shoot people all the time around here. And every White worker I ask says "no more than other major cities" like that excuses police sanctioned murder.
As more of a crowd forms, this young dude puts out his crate and starts to dance. Make that money!
Rich White tourists take photos in front of the crime scene. Seriously.
White people keep coming up to the crime scene, hearing that cops shot someone for driving the wrong way on the street, and telling us "there must be more to it" like this doesn't happen in this country all the time.
Big crowds for a crime scene mean money for young musicians. A powerful American scene.
Our lyft driver says "police have shot someone every month since March. I can't stand to get behind the wheel, I'm scared of them." She is visibly shaken.
