On my way to @BPEricAdams’s hearing on placard abuse. It’s 0.6 miles from my apartment. Let’s see how many illegally parked vehicles I see on my way...

Across from my front door, a @UPS truck and @Uber_NYC / @lyft blocking the bike lane and an entire traffic lane. Bikes and cars that want to get through must go (blind) into oncoming traffic.

Next - 8 illegally parked cars on the sidewalk, all with @NYPDTransit placards that say they’re there on “official business.”

Two illegally parked double decker @topviewnyc buses blocking the bike and traffic lanes. Note the cyclist squeezing around the bus and the cars going around in the oncoming traffic lane.

Next, 25 (!) vehicles parked illegally, some two deep, on the north side of Schermerhorn btwn Bond and Hoyt. 3 official vehicles, about half have placards/@MTA vests/random @NYPDTransit trinkets on their dashboards. The other half know they’re not going to get tickets either.

There is also a commercial van and another @UPS truck illegally parked on the north side. To get through, cyclists and vehicles need to squeeze through a pseudo-lane in the middle of the street.

Another block, two more vehicles parked illegally in the traffic lane. There’s space for both to pull up to the curb, but why parallel park when @NYPDTransit doesn’t enforce any parking laws?

Just passed a #ghostbike. With the # I’d illegally parked vehicles in this area, blocking the street and causing cyclists to engage in dangerous maneuvers to move, only a matter of time until there are more.

Pausing my @placardabuse to listen to @BPEricAdams’s presentation. He says he’s onboard with fighting placard abuse so long as we fight abuse all over #NYC. We are!!!!
