I was born poor & grew up working class.

But while we're talking about structural inequality & inequity, may I please use this moment to acknowledge that black and Latinx women face even steeper barriers and challenges at every imaginable level of our society and economy?
Black women are three to four times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes.

The fact that we're the only country in the developed world not to provide universal healthcare is a reason.

So is systemic bias.

Black women are paid less, 61 cents for every dollar a white male is paid, no matter what their education achievement, whether the job is low- or high-paying, where they live or what their age is.

We have a literal show-your-papers bill here in Texas, SB4, a shameful history of segregation, and Latinx women are still subjected to discrimination no matter what their level of excellence or achievement.
