Me : Did I hear you say "you're paid what you're worth?"
X : Yes.
Me : To your staff?
X : Yes
Me : But you've been bragging about how much you earn?
X : And?
Me : So, the staff know you earn more than them.
X : Of course I do, I manage them.

Me : You really are a world class idiot aren't you?
X : Why?
Me : The job of management is to achieve the best performance with a team, it's not to go undermining them.
X : It's also to lead.
Me : Trust me, leadership is well beyond your ability. Let us stick to management.

X : That's rot.
Me : Feeling defensive are we. Funny, that's how your staff must feel every time you undermine them by lauding how much more valuable you are. You're job is to support the team, to create an environment to enable them to achieve their best.
X : I don't undermine.

Me : I just heard you do it to them. You realise in really high performing teams that manager is often far from the highest paid person?
X : Management is the essential role. The team can be replaced. I can do their job.
Me : Well, you should because you can't do yours.
