Over the next few days try and read this 567 page report. It shows that a few good smart people desperately tried to get the nation's attention and trigger action to prevent attacks by a spoiled rich Saudi brat. 9-11commission.gov/report/911Repo…
America was obsessed with a false threat (Y2K) while real threats like an Algerian being arrested with explosives in his car and many others did not resonate. The evidence was there in plain sight. Numerous violent attacks were being planned against the U.S. Inside and outside.
Mullah Omar and Bin Laden and his thugs had a contentious relationship. Military commander Atef hoped the murder of Massoud would appease Omar and ensure that the Arabs would not be betrayed after 9/11
The taliban started their assault against the shocked Panjshiris in Afghanistan on September 10. The hijackers used the UAE as their financial hub and transferred the leftover money back after paying for tickets and hotels. Most of the hijackers had been pinged by law enforcement
The CIA had excellent intel on bin Laden and al Qaeda, the FBI had reports and files on many of the U.S. based hijackers, the problem was too much information and lack of coordination. Sorting through the avalanche of threats and warnings since spring of 2001 was the problem.
This is why the focus of a clear headed leader with the ability to assimilate complex, often confusing or repetitive information with the voter's authority to act unilaterally supported by intelligent staff is critical to prevent another 9/11.
