There's a 'standard' literary Kannada that no one has an issue with the existence of, no need to concoct this issue IMO. A better service to dialects'd be bringing (native) vocab. from them into the standard, that'd enrich the standard and increase interdialect comprehension.
Another issue is mockery of dialects/manners of speech, that renders people insecure about openly speaking in dialect (applies more to dialects more deviant from the standard). These are the real day to day threats to dialects as I see it, not some 'absence of official status'.
I'm still unsure about the relevance of the #StopHindiImposition here, don't think I've ever heard anyone disdain the existence of a 'standard Kannada' let alone term it 'imposition'. The dialects are thriving in their respective regional localities.
Some may argue that the standard eats away at dialects, but that's inevitable. Free unbiased evolution of spoken language is only possible in a non-literate (i.e. no literary standard) + fully egalitarian (i.e. no levels of dialect prestige) society, such a society doesn't exist.
If you turn each dialect into a language, these (neo-)languages will each soon acquire a 'standard' (as literacy is in fashion in this day and age), and thus this new standard will start eating away at deviants from it, cycle will repeat. This will not be a productive pursuit.
