There’s so much unnecessary frenzy around the replacement of the Economic Management Team chaired by @ProfOsinbajo with the Economic Advisory Council, it’s high time people understood what it means and doesn’t mean.
For starters, the National Economic Council is a constitutional body where the economic affairs of the country are discussed. This is chaired by the VP, all 36 State Governors, Governor of Central Bank, Finance Minister, Minister of Budget & National Planning...
... are members and that’s where there’s convergence of both FG and States to discuss economic matters, as well as advise Mr President.
Now the Economic Management Team is an adhoc body the President set up, which isn’t in the constitution, rather dependent on D President’s discretion. Same with the Economic Advisory Council, not a constitutional body unlike the National Economic Council which is constitutional.
It is important to understand the difference. So when Mr P decided to replace Economic Management Team with Economic Advisory Council, this in no way, affects the National Economic Council which is chaired by VP Osinbajo.
What the President has done is simply change his strategy. There’s no reason why the Economic Advisory Council cannot interface with VP Osinbajo as the nos 2 citizen of Nigeria and also in his role as the one who oversees the economic affairs of the Federation through NEC.
And of course, when the President is away, the Economic Advisory Council will certainly interface and report to the Vice President. So for all those who are taking panadol for someone else’s headache 🤕, please #Farabale. Thank you.
