1) Okay, this started as a joke ("I love this thing and must have it!"), but so many people have come out of the woodwork, it seems a good way to showcase some artists, so here's the deal ...
2) If you are a scrappy young artist, Reply to #3 in this post. I'll choose, well, five? Ten? Let's see what the response is. We'll figure out a rough commission fee for a 4-5 panel B&W version of this. Or a great one panel!

1) Seeing the responses to this post and the @tvoti thread, I think something we see on the inside developing most people don't see is not only are seasons getting shorter and orders getting shorter, but the medium itself is being jammed into one type of storytelling.
2) Because it's easier to get big promotable and Emmy-bait stars for short runs and the shows can swing dramatically because they don't need to pace for the long haul, along with the natural form of shorter runs (form;function etc) the shows are converging on a style.
3) Basically, it seems insane we built the most artistically successful, most profitable medium on earth on making a wide range of stuff, and now we're going to start making very small style of stuff.

b) If you're a television writer, reconcile yourself to the idea that 90% of your market is now mini-series with 3 seasons standard, 4-5 max. Internalize that shit.
c) 20 years from now we'll look back at this moment in TV and say "What the fuck were they thinking?"
Seeing the replies, a clarification on c): It's crazy we've killed the procedural or the one and done episode format, mainly.

I think the natural lifespan of a show is five years anyway. It's not that.

This makes my brain hurt, it is so wrong. But, I fully expect people to come out of the woodwork saying the Southern Strategy was all a liberal hoax and Owens is right. Fake news! Revisionist history is big business, especially when it comes to the South (see: Lost Cause). 1/
2/ First political campaign I worked on was in high school in early 90s for a GOP candidate. I remember people talking about how Dems switched to GOP over social issues. They never said “race.” Post-1968, you had other terms. See @KevinMKruse:
3/ I researched these changes intently and remember the late stages of them in the 80s/90s as a young conservative in the South. The shift from Dem to GOP was common knowledge. My elders told me about it. I chronicle the shift in chp 7 here: amazon.com/gp/aw/d/160306…

1. I've said this before, but it bears repeating. The socialized programs that we see in Europe didn't simply emerge as successful programs. These programs were committed to and refined across administrations. This passing of the baton is excruciatingly rare in American politics.
2. Instead, cling to the pendulum swing. A swing from majority ideology to ideology - a continual construction and destruction of progress. Granted, it has rarely been as blatant as we see with the current administration- where destruction of the previous admin is paramount.
3. Any new program is going to have problems. If the response to these problems is to attack not only the creators, but the premise, then the opposing party can rally enough support to take a majority and, effectively, do a 180. We do this over and over.
