1) Seeing the responses to this post and the @tvoti thread, I think something we see on the inside developing most people don't see is not only are seasons getting shorter and orders getting shorter, but the medium itself is being jammed into one type of storytelling.
2) Because it's easier to get big promotable and Emmy-bait stars for short runs and the shows can swing dramatically because they don't need to pace for the long haul, along with the natural form of shorter runs (form;function etc) the shows are converging on a style.
3) Basically, it seems insane we built the most artistically successful, most profitable medium on earth on making a wide range of stuff, and now we're going to start making very small style of stuff.
