My best friend from high school is a master teacher in a segregated, high-poverty @WaterlooSchools. I visited when I was home last week and told the kids I was buying each of them the book of their choice. They were so excited and my bf just sent me these. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This pic makes me particularly happy because I recommended the Harriet Tubman graphic novel and this baby girl on the left took me up on it.
My friend, Sheritta Stokes, even created these awesome labels for the books the children would bring home. Only five of her kids are on grade level but they were so excited to get to choose their own books and couldn’t wait to read them.
I hear so often — even from educators — that some kids “want to learn” and others don’t. I’ve never met a child who didn’t want to learn but I’ve certainly met many who struggle to. She is a teacher who believes in all of her kids and I am grateful to know she’s teaching them.
Since some of y’all asked, my friend just created an Amazon wishlist for classroom books if anyone is interested in donating. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls…
Address for anyone who needs it: c/o Sheritta Stokes Cunningham Elementary 1224 Mobile st Waterloo Ia 50703
