Identifying triggers. A trigger is anything that may cause a reactive response. I have many triggers. Some are largely resolved (with a little help from my friends), some still require work and some triggers are yet to be identified... #LearnWithFlynn
Before creating a positive association with triggers, we have to find out what they are. There may be an obvious pattern to reactions, or appear random. By writing about each incident, we can find the 'common factor'. This is likely to be a trigger... #LearnWithFlynn
Mums use the ABC Model to record my reactions. It's best to do this straight after a reaction and in as much detail as possible. Keep a pen and paper close to paw, wherever you go. ABC stands for Antecedent, Behaviour & Consequences... #LearnWithFlynn
This looks at what happened before, during & after the event. We can use my last reaction as an example. A: What was happening just before reaction? Any stressors in the last 3-4 days? What about your human? We feel their emotions, so a stressed owner will... #LearnWithFlynn
Raise our stress levels too. B: Describe the incident in as much detail as possible. What reactive behaviour was shown? Describe what/who the reactivity was aimed at... #LearnWithFlynn
C: What happened straight after? What did you do to calm down? Did it work? How did you behave after? How long did it take to return to normal? Doing this after every reaction will help to see factors that trigger reactivity. You can then work to turn negative... #LearnWithFlynn
