Gotta say, the number of people who tell me and my brother-from-another-mother, @tonyposnanski, to “get a room” is pathetic.

1) It’s vaguely homophobic

2) If anything other than men trying to out-macho each other strikes you as romance, your perspective on manhood is fucked up
I’m on a tear, so I’m just going to go with it.

I have members of my family who are LGBTQ. I have many friends who are *closer than family* who are LGBTQ.

I am every bit as affectionate with them as I am with my straight family and friends.

It would be disgraceful not to be.
When a person mocks straight men being utterly unconcerned with stupid, homophobic comments, they aren’t being funny. They’re being homophobic.

They’re saying affection between men is wrong.

And to that I say, grow. the. fuck. up.

Seriously, grow the fuck up.

Last week, the Intel Inspector General got roasted by Congress for not turning over a whistleblower complaint in the legally required seven days.

Now, the State Department’s IG, Steven Linick, an Obama appointee, has summoned congress to an “urgent briefing” this afternoon.

Per reporting:

“Linick reportedly asked for the meeting after his office obtained documents from the State Department's acting legal adviser.”

Sounds to me like State withheld information it was legally mandated to provide to Congress which Linick is now hastily forwarding.

Given the fact that last week’s drama centered on IGs’ obligation to forward *whistleblower complaints* though, don’t be surprised if State had received its own set of documented whistleblower concerns and buried them... until now.

I so wish a House committee would subpoena one mid-level attorney in the Office of Legal Counsel and then make an absolute example of them.

Cite them with contempt. Make them a household name. Put them in the spotlight. Go after their license.

And then subpoena the rest.
There aren’t a lot of people with the courage to be whistleblowers.

There also aren’t a lot of people with the courage to become public pariahs famous for tossing their reputation down the toilet for a shitty public sector job that would ruin their private sector future.
Ruin just one complicit little turd.

Drag them out of the anonymity of an org chart and right into the cover of every paper in the country.

Then cordially invite others to come in of their own accord or walk the plank too.

19 years ago today I was in the Clonea Strand hotel in Dungarvan with my family. I had moved home, brokenhearted, from the UK two days earlier. It was our annual family weekend away and my ex was supposed to be there with us.
We had dinner, played some board games, sat around chatting and one by one people peeled off to bed. Eventually there was just my brother and I left. We talked about what I was going to do for work, how I was feeling, what had happened.
He decided to hit the hay and I remember saying "I'm finishing this pint and I'm following you up."
Instead I got chatting to people who were attending a wedding, who bought me another pint. I went to the loo and that's the last thing I remember clearly.
