'How to visualize your career as a marathon' (or as I look at it, a bunch of sprints)

Been thinking about this over the past view days, just sharing a couple of notes, would love to hear your thoughts/better frameworks that have worked for you

Thread 👇
In India, most times you'd start working full time at the age of 21-22.

Although most want to retire early, would you really enjoy it? Maybe. Maybe not.

On average, let's consider your career to span over 30 years.

Break these into 10 x 3-year sprints
Why 3?

Lesser and you might not be "patient" enough to see the fruits of your hard work

Longer and you might holding on to something for the wrong reasons

Why even break it down?

2 reasons:
- Reflect and Pivot
- Reflect and Enjoy
So think of it as 10 levels in a game where you experiment, experience, learn and grow (and hopefully reach the finalé enjoyed the journey :))
Okay now how to plan these 3 years and review/plan the previous/next

1. Reflect on the previous level and see what went good, what could've been better

Be as frank as you can, share it with a friend for feedback if that helps
2. Are you dragging on to the next without really doing what you want to? Do it. Did you take a step and now want to switch back? Now you can

These sprints are just checkpoints, not that can't do it earlier or midway but in case you aren't, this is the awakening call
3. Plan for the current sprint. Want to get to somewhere (relationship, career, etc) start making those babysteps

Use @manas_saloi 's OKR framework (found that to be a good template + open feedback to keep you accountable, nothing works if you aren't accountable)
4. If you're fairly stable with this, plan for one ahead (not too many, life's super fast paced)

5. Have fun while you 🚀

Hope this helps, would love to hear some feedback/ hear what you do :)
