I went to see Joker. My opinion: a brilliantly made film, well-written and superbly directed.
It brings up brilliant points about elitism, mental health and social revolutions.
I can also see why some angry men have adopted the Joker as an incel symbol - incorrectly.
Yes, incel men will be drawn to Joker - because it will appeal to narcissists and delusions of grandeur. But I truly believe the film does not intend to glorify these things.
It's a great backstory to the Joker. But incel men are not nearly as complex or interesting.
Great film.
Side note: I was dubious about the film portraying the Joker in a sympathetic light. In my opinion, it doesn't.
I didn't feel sympathy... but at times I felt pity for the Joker. Subtle, but two different things.

I am so angry with every man on here bullying a 16 year old girl, making nasty comments about the way she looks. I suggest talking a look in the mirror before judging a teenage lassie for her appearance. Vile.

Ok I decided I wanna talk about my process of designing this level. Buckle up!!
So the initial idea came from the concept of "what if the original Bowser fight from SMB were given a big overhaul and seriously beefed up?"
But the first draft was way different. It featured multiple floors and you'd have to get past Bowser to drop the floor out and fall down to the next floor, but that proved way too janky for so many reasons

I think that this new paper is a great example of the type of meta-scientific work that we need to evaluate the effect of changing research practices. But I worry about the simple conclusion that "the push for better practices makes us use cheaper and easier methods" 1/15
We've done similar coding; haven't published it yet, because each time we get into it, we realize that this type of coding is hard, and we keep wanting to make different decisions. So my conclusions are based on coding that I now think is not ideal, but I'll continue anyway 2/15
First, I think this conclusion is problematic. This is a causal conclusion that the push for bigger Ns has led people to rely on Mturk and other on-line studies. The authors do acknowledge later that there are other possibilities; but this is the headline that will stick 3/15
