However, the letter doesn’t provide a legal, operational solution to prevent the return of a hard border on island of Ireland.
It does not set out what any alternative arrangements could be. In fact, it recognises that there is no guarantee that such arrangements will be in place by the end of the transition period.

As stated on many occasions, we stand ready to work constructively within our mandate.

Commission spokeswoman: 'I don't think it's the time to enter into blame games. What we believe is that an orderly withdrawal is in the best interests of both the EU and the UK and this is what we continue to push for.'

1/ Surprise! When Farage does answer questions, nearly every word is a falsehood. Let's break this clip down.
2/ Farage first admits that he had advocated a deal with the EU, but then rejects Marr's assertion that he advocated a deal during the referendum. Marr has clips that contradict Farage's latter refutation, but there's even more evidence: the 2015 UKIP manifesto.
3/ Farage claims Barnier and the EU offered May a free trade agreement, but she didn't ask for it and went for a close relationship instead. The timing in his explanation is confusing, but anyway this is a false claim as it confuses withdrawal agreement and future relationship.

1) 33 months after the June 2017 referendum, U.K. continues to negotiate internally on the way it could exit the EU and on possible options for its future relations with the EU.
2) However, there are only two decisions the U.K. might take and for which it does not need the EU’s agreement : exit the EU without any deal, or revoke its article 50’s letter and remain a member of the EU.

2/ As the press release notes, this is subject to negotiations with the European Parliament, which decides on visa legislation jointly with the Council.
As it happens, the EP committee unanimously adopted its negotiating position this week: europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.d…
3/ The EP and Council agree on a visa waiver. There are only minor differences in their positions.

b) The EP places more stress on reciprocity, ie UK not imposing visas

1/ Some quick comments on the UK/Swiss treaty on Brexit & acquired rights of citizens. It covers either a scenario where the withdrawal agreement enters into force, or no deal. If the former, it will apply only after the transition period ends, like the WA citizens rights rules.
2/ If there's no deal, it will apply from Brexit day. This is, of course, exactly how the EU and UK *ought* to deal with the position of @The3Million and @BritishInEurope. Hopefully the UK and Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein agree the same thing.
3/ The drafting structure is very similar to the withdrawal agreement citizens' rights part, except there's no references to the CJEU and the legal effect in domestic law is less far-reaching. No requirement for a UK domestic statute, for instance.

1/ Let's have a look at this recurring argument that only a no deal outcome creates legal certainty.

It's nonsense. Exactly the opposite is the case.
2/ It would be far more legally certain to Remain in the EU, especially since the CJEU has clarified that the UK can revoke its notification unilaterally and stay in the EU with the same legal status.
3/ The withdrawal agreement is also a more legally certain outcome than no deal. That's what you get from a 500+ page legal text.

In the medium term the WA is less legally certain than Remain, since the future relationship with the EU after the transition period isn't certain.
