One thing about Scorcese vs. comic book movies is that this is a *textbook* example of a thing that is a matter of opinion, the sort of thing we don't have to fight about because it's not about taking away anybody's rights or common humanity or hurting them or whatever.
Which isn't to say "everybody shut up about this" because... the whole point of the preceding tweet is that it's 100% okay for you to disagree with him and him to disagree with you.

And it can also be worth talking about whose opinions get the most weight, and why.
So please don't take these tweets to mean shut up about Scorcese and his comic book movie takes.

Rather, it's a plea or prayer that we all remember: we don't have to settle this. There's no victory to pursue, no disaster to avert. It's a conversation, not a fight.
More and more in my increasing age, I find myself -- sometimes naturally and sometimes after a reminder and a concerted effort -- regarding other people's perspectives not as things to argue against, even when mine differs, but things to take on board and consider.
I can read what Scorcese thinks about superhero movies and learn something about how Scorcese sees movies, period. I can learn something about another way of looking at the world.
And to be clear, I think most if not all of the really thoughtful folks on here I've seen with rebuttals and counterpoints and side analyses are basically there, in terms of they're not trying to obliterate Scorcese or his take for being wrong.
I think the risk is more in people who are watching the discourse and feeling like they're going to need to pick a side, that we all have to collectively agree that Scorcese is right or Scorcese is wrong (based on what the consensus they seen in front of them seems to be.)
We don't have to divide the entire world into right and wrong. There is right and there is wrong, but there's a lot of stuff that just *is*, and what it is, we can talk about until the cows come home.
I saw a thread talking about how reviews are useless because everybody focuses on different things and even two people who like the Joker movie won't agree about why it's good (and, I suppose, people who don't like it will see different problems).

But this is why I like reviews.
I like reviews because I can read what other people think about things. I can get an idea if people with a similar perspective to mine liked a movie. I can find out things I might like about it from people who disliked it, or the other way around, too.
Reviews *are* useless for dividing the world into piles into which we throw all the art (video games, movies, comic books, music, etc.) that is good or all of it that is bad.

But they're good for gaining a better understanding of them, and can be good for finding what you like.
