This is why i'm not interested in Joker. Cause the ppl making it (and seemingly the ppl who want to see it) all seem to have this deep contempt for comic book properties. They think they aren't "serious" and that they need "serious film makers" to make them good.
as a comic book fan, that's absolutely insulting.

Endgame isn't the biggest movie of all time because of green screens and cgi but because folks spent 10 years connecting with characters that they got to see come to an end with an amazing story arc
It's just....insulting. Comic books were born out of the fantastical and to see ppl say "we need more grounded representations of them" in movies is just...why even make a comic book film?
There's a way to make a Joker film that's a character study into his madness WHILE ALSO honoring the history of a comic character that's been around since the 30's and putting those comic book elements into it

we can have both. we've seen both
this is why when Marc Maron keeps taking shots at "comic book movies" while promoting Joker it confirms my decision to not go see the film. Why should I? He has no respect for the source and instead decides to insult those who do. That film is not for me
Every single one of these assholes think they know better than 50+ years of source material. Singer, Phillips, all of them. They all think they need to come in and improve on and save the source instead of respect and enhance it

and i'm supposed to be okay with that?
yet these the same ppl that would lose their shit over star wars making improvements or worse, if you take a classic book they love and strip everything from it and make it something unrecognizable
People lost their shit over the stuff Peter Jackson cut from the LOTR. Imagine if he said fuck it and turned it into a modern space opera. Folks would have been insulted
But that's cause they respect books but not "comic books". comic books are for "kids" and are inherently "not serious"

it's a fucking lie and i'm tired of hearing it but you see it
its like when ppl will say "i don't read comics but i read graphic novels"

nigga...its the same thing. You just don't have any respect for comic books so you think it makes you look cool to shit on that and the ppl who like them
There are so many Joker stories to tell in a "dark" way that embrace the comic book side of the character without having to strip all of it away and 'ground it' in a way that's more palatable for ppl who have their heads stuck up their asses when it comes to respecting comics
But when Todd Phillips and others START OUT insulting the readers and fans of comic books, why on earth would i ever give that movie a chance?
They've spent the entire time promoting this film as a way to 'trigger comic book fans'. "we want to be different"

Oh you want to take a comic book character in name only then make a film that's drained of any comic elements to make money? That's not new.
that's how they used to make comic book films before they got good
Scott Snyder wrote a batman/joker story that was dark, broke down the relationship of both characters and was truly amazing

yet didn't need to strip out the comic elements to do it

Yet filmmakers struggle to do character studies with comic book characters & the fantastical? ok
