Treasury IG finds 16,510 tax returns claiming "potentially erroneous" electric vehicle tax credits, totaling $73.8 million.

It's bad enough the mostly rich, mostly Californian buyers of EVs get hefty federal tax breaks. It's even worse that thousands of people who *are ineligible* are also claiming credits.
It's hard to tell from the report what exactly is going because of the heavy redactions.

Looks like people are claiming the credit for unqualified vehicles. Also claiming on leased vehicles, which causes a duplicate payment because leasing company makes the valid claim.
