The Federalist is what you'd get if you took the phrase "Well, actually," and turned it into a deeply insecure and angry white guy who had a Nazi uniform in his closet, but only because he liked to wear it on Halloween sometimes for sh*ts and giggles.

Your regular reminder that OANN is the stick that Trump uses to keep Fox News in line. I wouldn't be surprised if some of his loyalists at Fox like Hannity, Tucker, Jeanine, etc. haven't threatened to bolt to OANN if Fox doesn't sufficiently toe the MAGA line.

Fox is verging pretty close to state media these days, but if we ever get totalitarian state media on full blast it'll probably come in the form of OANN.

This was written in 2010. Note the bemused surprise that Glenn Beck was bringing back the good old charge that Democrats were "socialists" and his followers were eating it up. And also the author's prescient dismay that the GOP was cosigning Beck's conspiracy theory BS.
This is from the opening of this essay which I admittedly link to quite a lot here, but only because it strikes me as an excellent example of how an understanding of history can help someone identify current trends that will likely carry into the future. newyorker.com/magazine/2010/…
One great detail from the article is that Dizzy Gillespie (whose name was John Birks Gillespie) "made a humorous run for the Presidency in 1964, organizing John Birks Societies in twenty-five states."

154 years ago tonight our 16th President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theater while watching the play Our American Cousin.

After spending four long years overseeing a civil war that witnessed over 500,000 dead, the war was finally over. Lincoln was looking forward to a night of relaxation at the theater.

Ford's theater had only opened two years earlier in 1863. One of the well known actors who appeared in Shakespearean plays: John Wilkes Booth, future assassin of our President.

2) contd: . . .and insist upon substituting something new. True, you disagree among yourselves as to what that substitute shall be. You are divided on new propositions and plans, but you are unanimous in rejecting and denouncing the old policy of the fathers.
