Gratified to see in this piece a discussion of the lynching of foreign nationals. People are often surprised to learn about this but Walter White talked about these lynchings in his 1929 book “Rope & Faggot.”
In my 2003 article, “Creating a Truth & Reconciliation Commission for Lynching,” I noted yet another fact, not often discussed: the U.S. paid reparations to foreign govts when their nationals were lynched here in the U.S. There is precedent for lynching reparations. See fn 4.
The photograph of the mob storming the New Orleans jail in the @BrentNYT piece is reminiscent of countless lynchings. Devastating, really.
