HEADS UP: I have an assignment for you. We need your help. Remember when in 2015 the SCOTUS upheld the use of a key tool we use to fight housing discrimination: disparate impact? Well now Ben Carson at @HUDgov is trying to undo that decision.
What is “disparate impact”? Why is it important? How does it help us fight housing discrimination? I explained on @allinwithchris in 2015 when the SCOTUS upheld it. Have a quick listen.
Conservatives have been gunning for disparate impact for years. And now what they couldn’t kill in the SCOTUS they’re assigned Ben Carson to kill by regulation at HUD. The agency has proposed a new rule that would essential destroy the use of this tool. npr.org/2019/07/31/747…
But you can make a difference. We can still turn it back. HUD is receiving public comments. They need to hear from you. But time is of the essence. We only have 1 week left. We’ve made it easy. Everything you need including a sample comment ltr is here. defendcivilrights.org
Take 5 minutes. The integrity of Fair Housing Act and our ability to effectively fight housing discrimination is at stake.
