Fans of deregulation often seem to commit the following sins. 1) no example of an actual regulation that they want to get rid of, that they can get rid of, and where there is evidene that it would have some economic benefit.
2) Failure to recognize that much regulation is enabling, creating predictability ['drive on the left!'] or level playing fields [single market standards and product definitions].
3) Lack an appreciation that much regulation provides something that people want - high standards of quality and saftety, [again, those bound up with single market as an example].
4) Oblivious to the difficulties of having multiple regulatory standards [that emerge through bilateral FTAs] and therefore the benefits of the single market in establishing a single standard for such a large proximate market area.
5) Even for those hypothetical regulations that it would be good to ditch in the EU SM [there must be some], failure to acknowledge that they are not going to be beneficial enough to motivate exiting the single market.
6) Famously, some, [not implicating Ryan in this, but Boris Johnson is an example], even make up EU regulations that don't exist to make their point.
7) There is often a failure of realpolitik too, that (partly because regulations provide things people want) there would be any political appetite to deregulate after Brexit.
In particular, they seem deaf to the Lexiters in Corbyn's faction on the other side of the aisle, who seek Brexit to crank up state regulation of markets.
